History of the St. Peters Figure Skating Association

The St. Peters Figure Skating Association began in the mid 1990s to support and promote figure skating at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. Janet Cipolla was the first president, who, along with Sharon Campione and many dedicated board members, began the process of acquiring US Figure Skating club status.

In 1998, the SPFSA assisted the Rec-Plex in hosting the ISI World Team Recreational Championships, as well as the inaugural State Games of America in 1999, and again in 2001. The SPFSA, as a member of the Heartland Interclub Association, participated in hosting the 2006 US Figure Skating Championships. The 2008 ISI Synchronized Skating Championships and 2011 ISI Winter Classic National Competition were hosted by the St. Peters Rec-Plex, and the SPFSA provided hundreds of volunteer hours and support to the Rec-Plex staff. The SPFSA assists the Rec-Plex staff in hosting two ISI competitions annually. Currently, the club is looking forward to the Rec-Plex hosting the 2012 ISI Synchronized Skating Championships, to be held March 30 - April 1, 2012.

SPFSA members compete in USFS Regionals, as well as many non-qualifying USFS competitions. Adult members have participated in USFS Adult Sectional and National Championships.

The SPFSA is the home club of the Synchro St. Louis Synchronized Skating Teams. The Diamond Edges, Ice Gems and Jade Blades represent the SPFSA at the USFS Midwestern Sectional Championships, and other non-qualifying USFS competitions. The Synchro St. Louis Diamond Edges are the 2008 and 2009 USFS Sectional Champions and 2011 US National Competitors. Synchro St. Louis Sapphire Ice (Adult) represented the SPFSA at the 2001 US Synchronized Skating Championships, becoming the first area team to ever qualify for the event.

The SPFSA boasts a rich history in the St. Louis area, and looks forward to supporting local skaters for many years to come!
